Billy Dean原名William Harold Dean，于1962年4月生于Florida的Quincy。Dean的父亲是他的音乐启蒙教师，Dean长到10岁时，在圣诞时父亲送了他人生中的第一把电吉他。为了表示对父亲去世后的纪念，Dean用了Billy作为他的艺名。1990年，Billy Dean个人的第二张专辑《Only Here For A Little While》，一举登上乡村音乐排行榜的第3，因此成名。

Billy Dean属于量少质优的歌手，虽然不曾大红大紫过，也不可以冠以乡村巨星的名号，但是他的歌声永远是那么多情而悠扬，无论是Somewhere in My Broken Heart，还是It's What I do，还有很多很多，每一首都浸满了Billy Dean的天然的忧郁与感伤，他的歌属于可以反复听并且越听越有味道的那种。
