Tisdale has a mezzo-soprano voice style. Her music is predominantly considered teen pop, but has also included genres of dance-pop, ballads and contemporary R&B. She stated that she will move to a pop rock style for her second album, which is different from her usual genre. Tisdale has co-written four songs on her debut album, which include "Not Like That" and "Suddenly". She has also co-written several tracks on Guilty Pleasure.
Her musical influences include Mariah Carey, Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and many '80 songs. In a AOL.com interview, Tisdale stated, "I’ve been a big fan of Pink ever since she started. I love Katy’s sense of humor and her pop/rock feel. I love Pat Benatar's music. I’m inspired by all these women when I’m going into the studio, but almost anything inspires me."[
