英國著名搖滾樂隊披頭四（Beatles）成員約翰連儂（John Lennon，又譯作約翰・藍儂）1980年在寓所門外被槍殺，享年40歲。
兇手查普曼 (Mark David Chapman) 8月在假釋聽證會自白為了出命，「心中有魔」。
約翰連儂1980年12月8日晚返回紐約住所期間，被查普曼從後槍擊，身中4彈而死，舉世震驚。
他事後未有嘗試反抗或逃離現場，表現平靜，手持一本《麥田捕手》（The Catcher in the Rye）。
他其後被囚至今，目前仍須服20年至終身的監禁刑期。
